Biography

Since Oct. 2012, Said is a Research Director at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), a Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU)_ Qatar Foundation (QF) Institute. He was in charge of planning and equipping research infrastructure at HBKU’s Research Center (RC). Prior to joining QF, Said worked from 01/ 2000- 10/2012 as a senior research scientist and Manager of JDS Uniphase’s Materials Characterization Laboratory (JDS Uniphase is a telecommunication public company developing and manufacturing internet communication components, lasers, custom optics, currency anti-counterfeiting pigment and testing equipment for the network). Prior to joining JDSU, Said taught at the School of Materials Engineering at Purdue University, USA. At the same time, He was the Director of the Turner Laboratory for Electro-ceramics and later became the Director of Purdue’s Microstructural Analysis Facilities. Said also worked as visiting Research Scientist at the General Motors R&D Center, Warren, MI. Before returning to the US in 1990, Said worked as section head at the Central Lab at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, Kuwait (01/1984- 08/1990) and as a researcher at the Materials Characterization Lab at the University of Petroleum and Minerals (UPM) Research Institute, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia (04/86- 09/86)

Research Interest

In addition to building research infrastructure facilities and managing research laboratories, Said’s research interest and experience are in thin film deposition and characterization, failure analysis, semiconductors, perovskite ferroelectric memories, lithography, oxide composites for EM attenuation, powder ceramics, sintering and rapid thermal processes, microscopy and microanalysis, x-ray analysis, surface analysis, RBS, thermal analysis, spectroscopy and other.
